Upon talking with my tutor, he suggested that I try creating a user interactive walkthrough for an exhibition stand.
this is what i found out from the questionnaire:
1. 88% said that the user interactive helps them visualize the stand from different view points and allows them to see the exhibition stand properly instead of selected renderings.

2. 88% could spot possible changes in the design

3. 100% said that this kind of media would be helpful in the exhibition industry

4. 88% said that there is currently a market for user interactive walkthroughs in the exhibition industry

5. 75% agree that in the future there might be online virtual exhibitions featuring this kind of media

6. 45% would use the user interactive to visualize one stand. 27% would use it to visualize the entire exhibition. 18% would use it as a guide for stand placements.

7. 100% would recommend user interactive walkthroughs to other colleagues.

Opinions:
1. This would work perfectly from our point of view for showing pavilion organisers what we have arranged. Also for stand builders to prove how their stands would work to both organiser and client. (Mrs Nicky Hale, Events Manager)

2. I think anything that can help the client to see what you are offering is a plus. Unfortunately not many companies pay for the design effort and for that you will need to limit the effort of any presentation unless you have a real potential client. (Mr Nazih Khalil, Architect)

For my sixth artefact, I decided to create a user interactive of a tall structure to see what the experience would be like. The audience intended for this artefact is the general public, same as artefact 1.

I created a questionnaire based on the user interactive of the Emirates Flight Control Tower. This is what I found out;
1. 87% said that the user interactive would work for tall buildings or structures.
2. 100% said that the staircase helps them visualize the structure as it allows them to view it from different angles.
3. Only 80% said that this user interactive would work for taller skyscrapers, but I feel that there is a cut off for the height as it becomes harder to visualize the taller the building.
4. 73% said that they still get a realistic feeling and understanding of the structure from this user interactive.

For my next artefact, I will create a visualization package containing images, a 3D video and user interactive of an exhibition stand. Exhibition also makes use of visualization and the most common form of media is images. I will create a questionnaire to find out what an exhibition company thinks of a user interactive.

What I found out

1. The Satisfaction of a client is never easily attained; their expectation are always too high. Less information/detail is better, therefore images are more commonly used.

2. If images or a video is not enough for the client, then the User Interactive would be beneficial as it give more detail and information.

3. The User Interactive definitely helps to spot possible changes in the design, for the architect and for the client.

4. The UI would help both small and big clients, but also depends on the payment.

5. Even without shadows, they rated the UI 75% as it gives an idea of what the design would look like in real life.

6. UI is great for exterior of small houses and compounds, but may prove different for skyscrapers and high rise buildings.

7. UI will be beneficial towards interior design.

For the fourth artefact, I wanted to incline more towards a point. In order to do this, the product I created is a detailed user interactive walkthrough. My intended audience for the artefact is 10 males above the age of 30.
I created a questionnaire that would enable me to understand what opinions the users might have;
• 80% of the users said that the user interactive gives them a sense of what the proposed design would look like in real life.
• 60% of the users would prefer the user interactive for interior design.
• 70% of those users would want their own interior designs created by the visualization artist through live conversations.
• Only 50% of the users could spot changes to the exterior design of the house. This was due to the educational version not having shadows.
• 60% of the users would pay to get a user interactive walkthrough created for them.
• Upon asking specific directed questions about the interior and exterior, I found out that 60% of the users find the user interactive beneficial towards interior and exterior.

The problems that I faced during this artefact are, the older users find it hard to understand .zip files. Most users did not have time to go through the work unless it was their house being created. Some users could not find the first staircase in the User Interactive; to fix this I add a painting by the stairs to create curiosity. The biggest problem I faced was not having an option of using shadows. They help conceptualize the design on the user interactive.

For the next project, I intend on interviewing a few important roles in an architecture company. I will provide them with my client project as my artefact and then accordingly interview the owner, an architect and a visualization artist.

The third artefact in my Personal Research Project has allowed me to come closer to a conclusion that user interactive walkthrough’s are advantageous to Architectural Visualization. The product I created was a 3D video and a user interactive walkthrough of the interior of a house. My audience for this artefact is a family of four who designed the house supplied to me.

I created a questionnaire to find out their opinions on the comparison of the 3D video and the user interactive walkthrough. This is what I found out:
• As there was not much detail in the user interactive walkthrough, 50% of the family preferred the video and the other 50% liked the user interactive walkthrough.
• Surprisingly, 60% of the audience could spot possible changes through the video as compared to the 40% that liked the walkthrough.
• I also found out that 60% of the users would pay the architect for the user interactive and all would go out to buy it if the architect does not supply it.
• The family had also mentioned that the user interactive walkthrough is just as important as images and videos for their approval of the architectural design.

The problems I faced during this artefact are that Unity 3D has a steep learning curve and took me time to learn. 3D video took over 24 hours to render, this slows down production. The older users found it hard to use the user interactive as they are not accustomed to game controls.

For my next artefact, I will create a questionnaire with a more detailed and user friendly interactive walkthrough. The audience will be 10 males above the age of 30.

For the second artefact, I wanted to be more direct and find out the opinion of a private client. I have found a family that are building a house; they have supplied me with the 2D AutoCAD designs. Using those designs, the product I created is a full 3D exterior view of their house.

I created many visualization images showing the exterior of the house from different angles and then created a questionnaire to get my required information from the family of four. This is what I found out;
• I supplied the family with both types of images, realistic and artistic and 3 out of the 4 preferred the realistic images. This is further proof as mentioned in the previous artefact.
• As a client, all members of the family require more visualization media than just images. In the past only images were supplied with the technical drawings, now we have 3D videos and user interactive.
• All members of the family expect the images to be supplied with the technical drawings by the architect and 3 wouldn’t mind paying if charged. Majority of the architecture firms now provide visualization images, but many charge extra depending on the size and types of media.
• When asked to spot potential changes in the design, both parents said they were not able to. This proves that either a 3D video or user interactive is important.
• Surprisingly, 2 members of the family would not pay for a 3D video but all would pay for a user interactive.

For the next artefact, I will create a 3D video to show the interior of the house and then create a questionnaire to find out specific information from the private family client.

For the Personal Research Project, my topic is ‘What is the key advantage of real-time rendering for conceptualization’. I am specializing in Architectural Visualization, and this project will prove my theory that for majority of visualization, user interactive walkthroughs is the new media that is widely appreciated and beneficial.

For the first artefact, I wanted to get a general sense of what the public thinks of architectural visualization. So I created a product and got 100 opinions on it from the general public. The product I created was the Emirates Flight Control Tower at Terminal 3 in Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates.

I created a series of visualization images and a questionnaire along with it. From the questionnaire, I found out the following;
• 80% of the general public want the images to be more realistic than artistic. There are many companies that provide artistic images to give them an edge or to be different.
• Nearly 60% of the public would not be interested or not bothered if architectural images are advertised. In Dubai, many visualization images of buildings and skyscrapers are advertised, and many people just ignore them.
• 45% of people said images are not enough and that along with the technical drawings; they would want a user interactive walkthrough as well.

For the next artefact, I will create the exterior of a house supplied by a private client and create a questionnaire to ask them vital information about what they think of architectural visualization.

For Bradley's class, we had to create an original board game. Upon trial and error, I have come out with a game which I found to work well and keep the attention of the players fully. It is a 2 player game called 'Pegged v2.0', the Aim is to conquer the opponents base with 3 of your pegs. There are different ways to go about that mission, you could either go for chance cards, which may or may not work in your favor, or you could head straight for your opponents base. Play to decide your strategy!

well after loads of hard work put into 3d max and flash, i managed to scrape out a website that i made from scratch! :D
unfortunately there are a few bugs, but i will fix them as soon as i can. Its just that the rendering takes way to long. I couldnt really think of what else to add to my website, so if you have any suggestions, theyre most welcome! :)

I was just browing the internet when I came across this advert of coca-cola!
I find it quite innovative and imaginative. The character goes through a various number of sceneries which I find adds to the creative side of it. The idea behind it is simply beautiful, which made it an interesting advert to watch.

There are soo many characters in this short animation, makes me wonder how many people sat making it and how long it took. This advert shows us the endless pit-hole our imagination can be if we set our minds to it.

This is an interactive game which lets you choose your own music to play. The user controls a levitating spacecraft similar to wipeout, the player must collect 3 or more boxes of the same colour. there are 14 options to choose from which add the to the diversity of the game, from different styles to different levels. One spaceship has only 1 colour to collect but has grey blocks which must be avoided. While another has 3 colours to collect. The game also allows you to choose different environment which make you feel like you playing a different game.

Have you ever wanted to enter a role playing game which allows you to explore endlessly around a beautifully created map, attack monsters you desire, complete quests, or just roam around to make friends, well Silkroad is the game for you. The map follows the route of the silroad which is from china to europe and vice versa. There are many different classes and weapons you get to choose from, this allows each person to have a slightly different character. I started roaming around the map, looking for people to communicate with. I have realized that not everybody likes to be friendly. Some characters just ignore you and go ahead with their work, but there are quite a few characters who like to mingle and make friends. The best way in the game is to join a guild. A guild is a huge group of people who form their own team, thus allowing many characters to mingle. The game has included missions which require your team to participate in quests, They allow you to interact with ur team members in order to perform the task at hand. Such missions would include a fortress war, where guilds go up against eachother and you need to communicate with ur team to win. Trade routes to earn money, you need to have majority of you guild to help you with this as there are many theives running around the map, so you have to appoint a member to trade and many others to hunt (characters who follow the trader and fight off theives). Overall this game is a lot of fun for personal and group entertainment. I have made many friends and joined a guild in this game, I must say it was a good experience.

I was not fully happy with my final video, therefore after coming back to Nottingham, I have started re-editing and removing most of the bugs from my final piece. The video will take some time to render, so here are some pictures to give you a rough idea of what has been changed.

I made the bottle fall right below the camera.

I changed the lighting so that the whole video lasts one 'day' instead of three.

With editing the lighting, there is more of an evening look to the water.

For this 3d max project, we were given the choice of creating anything we wanted. I have chosen to explain how i interpret my life, a basic layout of my life in an animated scene. The bottle is me, empty, lonely and fragile, the messege inside is my destiny, completely unknown. ok so iva been practicing 3Dmax on 2 different projects, my 1st 1 included a first person view where the camera is being shot at frm a foggy distanc. I had put in a lot of effort into this project bvut unfortunately for me while rendering the final piece, both files got corrupted due to my computer restarting midway.
My 2nd project was a speaker system with a 3d equilizer, im not extremely happy with this piece but i am content with it. I will start work on my final avatar project now.

I would recommend this game to everyone! it is a game with its own original style. the camera is in third person, but the character is slightly to the side. In the start of the game the player is dizzy and you can see every detail ingame! in games such as splinter cell, rainbow 6, and others, you have to press a button to go up against a wall whereas in this game it does it automatically.

this game is amazinly detailed graphics as well as an enormous physics engine.
for me, ths game is at my highest level of rating along with 'max payne' (which i finished in 1 day).

just plain wow!
this music video for the song 'mer du japon' by french duo 'air' just amazes me. I love the blend to it, it has 2 dancers whos choreography is simply beautiful, animated bubbles and fish floating around, these ripples frm the dancers, the band in the background, these splashs of matching colours and best of all a dragon.
this is an interesting side to AV, i have never seen anythin as good as this before.

Today I will introduce my char to you. In order to enjoy the different parts of the game, you have to level. This can obviously take a very long time, but i have managed to get my friend to level me up using a meathod commonly known as 'taxi'. Where the main player kills mobs (monsters) of lower level compared to them but an 11 level gap between the mob and the player who is taxi'ing.

So right now im stuck in a delima, as i havnt done the quests properly i have less gold which means i cant buy equipment. As soon as i catch my friend online ill get him to send me some gold, but till then here is my char.

I am level 29, took me little less than a week, usually takes 2 months.

as i mentioned earlier, my char has a sub-class called bard, here is a picture of my char doing a speed buff (magic on the char, uses mp).

next time on my SRO update, i will upgrade my char into my very own second self.

for our second seminar, we had to create a squid or octopus looking thing. I hav managed to add a little more to the project. ;)
I have added animation to 4 squids, the water surface and the camera.
took a lot of hard work for 3 seconds of animation, but it was definately worth it!

This image is a spark from my friend's zippo lighter, I managed to get perfect timing!

Soaring High:

I took this picture in a moving car, was pretty lucky. To me this picture screams colour, as you can see the grass looks like a lush green as compared to the slightly duller yet shiny rock.

WEEK 01

From today, I will start my diary of my avatar. First off, let me introduce the program. It is called Silkroad Online Legends I, Europe. Better known as Silkroad or SRO. this game is a free MMORPG which allows users to choose between the European or the Chinese race. When creating a character (aka char), you choose your weapon depending on your choice of battle.

European class masteries

Melee Class: Warrior & Rogue
Warrior: Utilizes increased HP and defensive skills to take damage for the rest of the party, or distribute damage evenly among the party members. They also deal great physical damage. Allows use of 1-Handed Swords, as well as the Two-Handed Swords and Dual Axes.
Rogue: Uses stealth to sneak up on or retreat from enemies, manipulate their appearance with the Mask and Duplicate techniques. They also inflict poison, stun, bleed, knock-down and knock-back attacks. They also have a considerably high chance of a critical attack. allows use of the two-handed weapons Crossbow and Daggers.

Caster Class: Wizard & Warlock
Wizard: Uses the Elements to deal great magical damage, similar to the Chinese Force classes. They utilize Earth, Cold (or water), Fire, and Lightning (or air). They are good at PVP (player vs player) but have extremely low health points and in order for them to gain the upper hand in PVP, they must attack first, as they usually severely damage a foe if not kill him in one hit. Allows use of a two handed Staff.
Warlock: Inflicts status effects (poison, dull, sleep, dark, fear), stat reduction, HP leeching attacks (Vampire) and DPS attacks (Bleed). They also manipulate the appearance of themselves and their party members through the use of the Illusion and Scream Mask Their primary role in a party is to weaken and/or stun the enemy to a state that the party can better defeat. Warlock is actually one of the least played. Allows use of the one-handed Warlock Rod.

Buff Class: Bard & Cleric
Bard: Restore MP. Through the use of buffs they increase the party's walking speed, reduce the party's MP consumption, increase hit rate and defense, and increase physical and magical damage. They can also deal some magical damage. Allows use of the one-handed Cleric Rod.
Cleric: Similar to the Chinese Force mastery. Their primary role is to restore HP, cure status effects, resurrect, and provide buffs to their party that provide protection and increased strength. Allows use of the two-handed Harp.

The great thing about the european server is that you can choose a sub-class as well. My character is a 'Rogue'(crossbow) and a 'bard'.

As you pass through levels by completing quests and gaining experience (exp), your responsibilities increase such as:
quests - killing a certain amount of monsters or collecting their drops.
jobs - a trader, a hunter or a theif.
trade runs - where you travel from city to city with items to deliver/protect/steal for gold.
fortress war - which is a guild combat with up to 300 players participating.
and many more...

Guitar Hero 3:

For anybody who has ever laid their hand on a guitar, and loved it, this game will attract you no less. Not only is this game fun to play, but it also manages to split your thinking two ways. One for the rhythm and one for the notes. It is pretty hard to get used to in the start, but after much practice this game will become a never ending mission to finish.

This game is fun to play especially with frends just to have a great time.

Saw 4

Well just A few days ago, I watched 'Saw 4'. I must say, I really did enjoy that film. Most people have said it is the worst of the series, but to me, I would say that the story-line of the fourth film has totally compelled me to like the series more. The story of each film is just creative madness. The story reveals itself in tiny amounts which at the end of the film add up to the summary. The camera angles are decent and the lighting and colour of the film are jus extravagent and u can only see what your meant to see. Without further a do, i recommend everyone to watch this film if your a Saw fan.

Well today, for our seminar we had to create an animation of our name in 3D Max. This is my first attempt at 3D and im actually quite happy with it! I especially like the part when the shadow of the hot air balloon passes over my name.

okay so last week, the group met up and planned out the film. It was a gud session, we precticed the shot and finally recorded it with no problems. today i chose the song 'Apologize' by Timbaland and OneRepublic, I edited the track to fit perfectly onto the film.

okay so i made my way to the library to look for one book frm the reading list and another multimedia book that interests me.

The Art of the Storyboard - John Hart
Well this book is a bit interesting as it helps to improve planing skills. A storyboard is a must in order to generate great ideas, they help organize the story and also provide an explination of the story.
I usually make small quick sketches of my ideas, but after reading the book, it helped me advance through. The book explains quick sketches all the way to a very detailed storyboard.

The Photoshop CS book for digital photographers - Scott Kelby
The two main things i love to do in my free time is photography and photoshop and what better book to choose than a photoshop book for photography.
This book is extremely good, it breaks down all the steps in the form of a simple and easy to read tutorial, while explaining how to make an average image spectacular.
I have quite a good knowledge on photoediting on photoshop, this book helped me enhance my skills.

lets start with

what do i want to get out of the course in addition to passing?
A. Well i want to enhance my photoshop skills, learn 3D techniques and open up a vast amount of opportunities over the following years.

What was i up to during my first week?
A. I am not really a party person, as i am still underage in Dubai, i am not used to the clubbing scene and therfore i have my group of frends here that i hang out with and drink with.

Over the next few days i will be posting my photography and photomanipulation work onto the blog!
